The Homegrown Show

The Homegrown Show

The Homegrown show has been playing on Cortes Radio since 2012. It features local and Canadian music, especially artists from the west coast. The genres are open, but it tends to feature folk music, country, rock and blues, particularly with a west coast theme, or subjects that celebrate our lives on the BC coast. However, I like to play a few songs from Atlantic Canada as well in each show. I try to include a humorous or novelty song each show as well. These can be from anywhere. Spoken word also gets played on the show, and I would welcome more recorded poetry to include, as well as short stories, taking a bit of a literary direction as well as the music. The well respected works of Stewart MacLean and Wade Davis are two examples of Canadian literary work that I would like to include more of, as well as local radio plays. The Homegrown Show Some of the music played on the Homegrown show is available online through CD baby, a platform for independent artists to distribute their works. A lot of the music is aquired at live shows hosted by our sponsoring establishment, Kameleon Food and drink. Homegrown Show Archives – 2018 Summer

Hurricane Rena brought the Homegrown, with its unique blend of local, West Coast and Canadian music to Cortes Radio for six years now. This is the first purely archival page:  Homegrown Show Archives - 2018, Summer. According to her website,  “The Homegrown show is a radio show played on CKTZ Cortes Island Community radio, 89.5 fm. It’s on from 1-3 Sunday afternoons and features local musicians from Quadra, Cortes, and Vancouver Island. A lot of Canadian music is played, songs that celebrate our unique lifestyle in the islands of the BC Coast and Western Canada in general. You can hear music on my show that you don’t often hear anywhere else, as well as poetry. The Homegrown show began celebrating our unique lifestyle in song during March of 2011, around the time of the super moon, closest the moon will be to the Earth in 27000 years.”   Aug 26 Program by Hurricane Rena | The Homegrown Show http://rest.s3for.me/homegrownshow/august26.mp3 Aug 19 Program by Hurricane Rena | The Homegrown Show http://rest.s3for.me/homegrownshow/aug19.mp3 Aug 12 Program by Hurricane Rena | The Homegrown Show http://rest.s3for.me/homegrownshow/aug12.mp3 Aug 5 Program by Hurricane Rena | The Homegrown Show http://rest.s3for.me/homegrownshow/august+5.mp3 July 29 Program by Hurricane Rena | The Homegrown Show http://rest.s3for.me/homegrownshow/july29.mp3 July 22 Program by Hurricane Rena | The Homegrown Show http://rest.s3for.me/homegrownshow/july22.mp3 July 15 Program by Hurricane Rena | The Homegrown Show http://rest.s3for.me/homegrownshow/july15.mp3 July 8 Program by Hurricane Rena | The Homegrown Show http://rest.s3for.me/homegrownshow/july8.mp3 July 1 program by Hurricane Rena | The Homegrown Show http://rest.s3for.me/homegrownshow/july1.mp3 June 24 Program by Hurricane Rena | The Homegrown Show http://rest.s3for.me/homegrownshow/june24.mp3 June 17 Program by Hurricane Rena | The Homegrown Show http://rest.s3for.me/homegrownshow/june17.mp3 June 10...
