It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of the puppet “Charlez,” who was created for the Winter Lip Sync of 2015. His creator, Meinsje, put her fist through his face five minutes before he was to go on stage for this summer’s Lip Sync in Manson’s Hall on Cortes Island. With the help of CKTZ’s Greenroom Queen Lella Gmeiner, who brought her “a sharpie,” Meinsje stitched her renowned paramour up in time for his final performance. Now the word is out, Charlez is no more.
Rumours Of Foul Play
There are rumours of foul play.
“Well my temper got the best of me, seeing Charlez ready to go on with another woman,” says Meinsje.
Meinsje’s off and on again relationship with Charlz dates back to their first performance.
“I’m single, so I’m going to make myself a new boyfriend. So I created Charlez and he has been a big part of the Lip Sync ever since,” explained Meinsje.
“If you are looking for the ideal companion, perhaps Meinsje can create one for you. You can name him whatever you want,” quipped Lip Sync MC Rick Bockner, at the time.
Even then, Meinsje’s response to her companion’s bold advances was a slap.
Not the First Time
This is not the first time Meinsje has reported Charlz’s demise. The legendary puppet allegedly retired after the 2016 Lip Sync, but was devastated when he learned that Meinsje intended to perform by herself in 2017. After a lengthy discussion, she agreed to let him perform a solo rendition of “I’m not the man you think I am.”
This year “Gizelle,” operated by Norleen Lillico, joined Charlz for a comic rendition of Sonny and Cher’s “I’ve got you Babe.”
Some believe Charlez may yet return.
“Not a chance,” says Meinsje. “I noticed the stuffing of his face all came out. The puppet is rotting away. He was never was meant to be a star. So I’m Iooking for a new partner… any puppets out there that want to date a single puppeteer?”
