Island Cookery III: A Taste of Life on Quadra Island is a full-colour cookbook produced on Quadra last year as a fundraiser for the Quadra Island Children’s Centre.

With over 1,000 copies sold since its release in December 2021, it is proof of how much can be accomplished in community.

“During the summer of 2021, more than 75 Quadra Island residents came together to taste test over 350 home-cooked recipes created by over 100 professional and amateur cooks, with the goal of publishing the very best recipes Quadra has to offer in a new cookbook,” reads an article on Rural Islands Economic Partnership about the book’s conception.

Dre Hagen, a Quadra Island resident and one of the many people who worked on the book, spoke with CKTZ News about how the book celebrates “local” from cover to cover in its ingredients, images and stories.

The book can be purchased directly from the website or participating retailers, including Marnie’s Books on Cortes Island. All proceeds are donated to the Children’s Centre on Quadra Island, which will support improvements such as building maintenance.

All three Island Cookery books were created to raise funds for the centre, with the first two published in 1981 and 1991, respectively.
