Nuevo Malibu 11.6: The Grand Galloping Goof Runs Amuck Again

The new Narrator reports to the TURDIS — the time-traveling Port-a-Potty — to discover that earthling crew members Clell Landis and Doctor Shay Watt? have been imprisoned by (fanfare) The Grand Galloping Goof in a Google Pixel phone.  The Goof insists that Mack the hologram take the TURDIS back to 1943 to witness the dawn of the psychedelic era.  At the Sandoz labs in Switzerland, Mack, Narrator and the Goof watch chemist Albert Hofmann ingest a whopping dose of LSD, then follow him home on his legendary bicycle ride.  Thanks to the Internal Monologue Contrivance devised by Mack, we are able to hear Hofmann’s inner trip.  Summoned to Hofmann’s house, the chemist’s doctor assures the panicked Hofmann that he’s fine except for incredibly dilated pupils.  Hofmann settles down and enjoys the trip.  The Goof then insists on going to California in 1970 to observe the jailbreak of acid guru Timothy Leary. Disguised as an actual Port-a-Potty on the roof of a prison, the crew watches Leary attempt to shimmy to freedom on a telephone wire.  When the Goof insists on getting closer to the action, he knocks Leary off the wire onto a guard below.  Mack has to reset the TURDIS to make things right.  Finally satisfied, the Goof releases Doctor Watt? and Landis.  Mack and Narrator journey to San Juan Capristrano to fetch them. Malibu Roots – back to the beginning!

Malibu Roots – back to the beginning!

So what is the back story of this series?  What are the histories and motivations of the characters?  Let’s start at Day One of our voyage, before our main characters ever met, before they formed a crew and before they encountered the Norse goddess Frigg, Emily Dickinson, the Grand Galloping Goof, and that surly server at the Caucasian Cafe.  Even before they met Sarah Palin repeatedly.  This is our Roots episode. Donald Trump has just taken office.  He flexes his new power by nuking Prince Edward Island during a performance of “Anne of Green Gables  — The Musical”. In retaliation, California, Oregon and Washington state secede from the U.S. and join British Columbia and Tijuana, Mexico, to form the nation Nuevo Malibu. As the fledgling country struggles to reimagine government, Unity Ananda Esperanto-Pangaea and her daughter Brittany Starshine Guasacaca try to figure out where they fit into this start-up sovereignty.  Starshine moves to Pismo Beach, California, to sell avocado smoothies, and Unity takes a job as a greeter at the border in the Mojave Desert. While Unity and Starshine adjust, Nuevo Malibu itself strives to pick a national anthem, considering such classic songs as “Purple Haze”, “Truckin’”, “Keep Ya Head Up”, “Louie, Louie”, “Enter Sandman” and “Smooth”.  It also tries to form a navy from some of George Soros’s lesser yachts. In Vancouver’s Stanley Park, a former American and a former Canadian attempt to define what it means to be a good Nuevo Malibuian, with mixed results.  A committee in the capitol of the new country selects the national animal, somehow opting for the banana slug. So relax, close your eyes...

Fuchsia decides that she must find her husband Rhadd, who has joined Bluntz’s bedraggled troops.  She and Nanny stow away on a river boat helmed by Quint, a ne’er-do-well who knows where Bluntz is. Fortunately for the sake of the plot, Villard is also aboard the boat.  When Quint meets a tragic but comical end, Fuchsia, Nanny and Villard continue on upriver and find Bluntz.  Rhadd is indeed there, but Bluntz won’t let Rhadd leave until he completes his mytho-poetic manhood training.  Fuchsia bests Bluntz in a haiku slam...
