This week’s Podcast Rita Lee (born Rita Lee Jones, December 31, 1947) is a Brazilian rock singer and composer. She is a former member of the Brazilian band Os Mutantes and is a popular figure in Brazilian entertainment, where she is also known for being an animal rights activist and a vegetarian. She has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide. In 2008 she sold it and moved to Brazil to learn Permaculture and live in Intentional Communities across the country. In 2012 she found Cortes Island and started to spend her Summers there, while continuing to spend her winters in Brazil. In 2016 she left Brazil for good and replaced it for Mexico - La Manzanilla, in Jalisco state. In 2019 she finally achieved her Permanent Residency in Canada. She also moved to Quadra island, but continues to stay connected with the Cortes community, and maintain her volunteer work for the CKTZ radio station as a weekly DJ and as a performer. José Afonso, Zeca Afonso or just Zeca (2 August 1929 – 23 February 1987) is among the most influential folk and political musicians in Portuguese history. He became an icon in Portugal due to the role of his music in the resistance against the dictatorial regime of Oliveira Salazar. He is still widely listened to, not only in Portugal, but also abroad. The singer has released 50 studio albums in 47 years of career, and is among the 10 best-selling music artists in Brazil, having sold more than 26 million records.
